It has often been said that worry is a killer. The fact is, excessive worrying can indeed lead to illness. Headaches, fatigue, rapid heartbeat, muscle aches, and the list can go on and on. The weight of worry on our minds and bodies can be immense. So why do we do it? Jesus says in Matthew 6:24, “Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?” Worrying isn’t going to take care of anything, except maybe make us sick.
Henry Ward Beecher said, “It is not hard work that kills men, it is worry! Work is healthy. You can hardly put more on a man than he can bear. Worry is rust upon the blade. It is not the revolution that destroys the machinery, but the friction. Fear secretes acids, but love and trust are sweet juices.”
How often we have seen it. Someone can work hard all their life, rise early, do back-breaking labor, but look and feel far better than so many who live in a pressure cooker of stress and anxiety!
It’s been reported that 99% of the things we worry about never come to pass. And, most of what we worry about end up not being as bad as we thought. It just eats up our time and energy. Philippians 4:6-7 says, “Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Worry or Jesus? I choose Jesus, how about you?
Trust God and realize that He is in control. I do not know what the future holds, but I know Who hold the future.
